Residential — Custom Projects & Renovation

For the homes that are not a standard service call.

Some plumbing work is a Tuesday-afternoon service call. Some is not. This page is about the second kind: whole-home repipes, integrated water-treatment systems, fixture refreshes coordinated with a renovation, recirculation loop installation, and the steady multi-year stewardship of a four-thousand-to-twelve-thousand-square-foot home's plumbing system.

Our typical residential client in this category is renovating a Tudor or Colonial in Old Greenwich or Riverside, or has bought a Stone Colonial in Cos Cob that needs its 1980s copper replaced, or is moving into a 7,200 sqft Bedford property with a well and is sorting out what the previous owner did to the water treatment. Some are in the middle of a year-long renovation with a regional builder; some called us six months after closing because they realized their plumbing system needed a partner, not a vendor.

The five practices on the services page are the components. This page is about how they assemble into the multi-year relationship that has held our high-end residential roster steady since the early Robert Vail years. Daniel personally inspects every whole-home repipe. Helena personally signs off on every multi-year program enrollment. We have run this side of the firm without significant turnover for sixteen years.

Our typical residential-luxury client has us on their phone alongside their painter, their finish carpenter, and their landscape architect. We are a multi-year relationship, not a one-call vendor.

Annual Plumbing Inspection Program

The annual inspection program is the recurring-revenue product we offer to our high-end residential clients. It costs three hundred and eighty-five dollars a year and produces a yearly walk-through inspection covering supply lines, drain mains, water-heater health, recirculation-loop performance, and water-quality readings — plus a ten-percent discount on any service-repair work that calendar year.

The program runs on a March-to-March cycle, with the visit scheduled at the homeowner's convenience inside that window. The inspecting plumber is a senior master plumber, the same plumber visit-to-visit when our scheduling allows. The visit produces a written report at the end of the appointment, with photographs of any flagged items and a recommendation tier: monitor, schedule in the next service window, schedule immediately.

The program currently has roughly one hundred and forty Greenwich-area households enrolled. We do not market the program; it grows by referral from members. The retention rate is above ninety-three percent year-over-year.

The financial economics are not the point. The point is that we have a documented annual touchpoint with a hundred and forty homes whose plumbing systems we know, whose homeowners we know, whose project history is on file, and whose call to the 24-hour line will route to a dispatcher who knows the home before the address has finished being read aloud.

Renovation Coordination

The other thing we do for clients in this category is coordinate the plumbing scope of a renovation with the rest of the trades. The role is unusual for a plumbing firm — it is usually played by the GC or the architect's project manager — but for clients who do not have a GC on a partial-renovation project, or who have an architect-led design build where the design firm is not running construction administration, we step into the coordination role on the plumbing side.

Coordination means: a single named project manager for the plumbing work, a shared schedule with the painter and finish carpenter and tile contractor, a documented sequence of who-does-what-when, daily 4:00 PM check-ins through the active phase, and a final walk-through with the homeowner. We have done this for thirty-eight Greenwich-area renovations since 2019. It is not a discount; it is a scope of work that requires a senior project manager and is billed accordingly.

For renovations where you do have a GC running the project, we coordinate directly with the GC and stay out of the homeowner's hair. The builders and architects page documents how we engage with that side.
